Parkour at Paragym: progressive and safe

Parkour is the art of moving efficiently from point A to point B by getting over, under and around obstacles: jumping, landing, climbing and vaulting. At Paragym, at 5465 Rue de Bordeaux in Montreal, we teach parkour indoors, in a padded environment built for learning the right technique before pushing it further. Whether you are an adult discovering the discipline or a parent looking for a fun, challenging activity for your child, this page explains our options and helps you choose where to start.

Our philosophy is simple: well-defined progressions keep you safe and help you learn fast. Every movement is broken down into steps, from basic landings to more advanced vaults. You don’t skip steps: you build a solid base, then add height, speed and creativity.

Obstacles: Paragym’s version of parkour

Obstacles is our adult parkour class. It sequences floor-based movement such as quadrupedal patterns, jumping techniques, rolling landings, a wide range of jumps around obstacles, and flips involving obstacles and thick safety mats (with spotting). You will work on:

  • precision jumps and rolling landings;
  • vaults such as the kong, dash, kash, speed and reverse;
  • a selection of flips with obstacles and wall movements;
  • sometimes, depending on the day and the coach, an obstacle course circuit using padded equipment.

It is a physical, dynamic class that focuses on the lower body. It’s best not to have knee problems, and you should expect a good leg workout. To join, you should be above level 2 (Red) on the movement assessment, especially for jumping, and be able to jump and land without pain.

Acro-Obstacles: the next step

Acro-Obstacles is an advanced training environment for adults that integrates acrobatics into different obstacle setups. It is the next step for those who already have parkour basics and want to combine flips and vaults.

Complete beginner?

If you haven’t been active for a while, start with our Foundations class, the best starting point for learning the principles behind more complex movements. See our Levels & Curriculum page to understand our four levels (Orange, Red, Blue, Black) or take our online placement quiz.

Parkour for kids and teens

Our youth programs offer an introduction to parkour and acrobatics so kids can learn to perform safe, powerful jumps, soft landings and a wide selection of vaults and flips with good technique. Kids train on a fully padded foam playground with a large trampoline surface and foam obstacles.

  • AcroKids (ages 7–11): mainly teaches parkour and acrobatics to kids who want to learn the movements safely.
  • AcroAdos (ages 12–17): parkour and acrobatics for teenagers, with technical jumps (precision, strides, plyo) and obstacle vaults (kong and more).

Find all the details on the Kids and Teens page and the times on the Kids Class Schedule.

Why learn parkour indoors?

Training indoors means you can repeat a movement dozens of times on surfaces that forgive mistakes. Foam modules, thick mats and coach spotting let you try a new vault or a first flip without the stress of concrete. Once the technique is solid, it transfers much better outdoors.

Parkour also builds qualities you use every day: leg power, coordination, balance, reading your environment and self-confidence. At Paragym it is part of a broader movement approach that includes acrobatics, handstands and strength.
